“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in our inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” Ephesians 3:16-18
Years ago my husband and I were teaching a Bible study called Experiencing God by Henry and Richard Blackaby. In this study we learned how God speaks to his people. Studying this had such an impact on my life. I have never forgotten the three distinct ways that God speaks to his people. According to Blackaby, the three ways are through his word, through prayer and through other people.
God speaks to us when we are in his word and connecting with him directly. This morning God spoke to me through his word. There have been many times in my life when this has been the case. Over the years God has used his word and the physical Bible to bring me comfort and security. When I feel upset or down about something I grab my Bible. When I am frightened I sleep with my Bible. When I sit down and read his word I am often overwhelmed with the message he has for me that day. It is always on target for what I need to hear at that moment. He has never let me down.
This struck me today as I was sitting alone with God and talking to him. I opened the Bible app on my phone to see what the verse for the day was and it was Ephesians 3:17. You see, I had been praying about the school and some things that are happening at the school right now. I was laying these things at God’s feet when he gave me this verse. The significance of this particular verse is that it is part of our theme verse for the school this year. It is the very thing we are teaching the students and focusing on this whole school year. We are working on knowing how much God loves and cares for all of us. We are working on being rooted only in him and to know the extent of his power especially when we are rooted together with God’s holy people. God used his word today to speak to me. His message was clear, continue to fully rely on him alone and to continue the mission and work given to you, teaching the children about him, helping them to become rooted in his love and his glory. I thank God every day for this wonderful mission he has given me. I look forward to seeing how God will continue to move in the lives and hearts of his people, both little and big, here at Faith Community Christian School during the 2016-2017 school year.
